A Look at the Lamprey

Meet the Pacific Lamprey

The Pacific Lamprey, pictured here, is a jawless fish with no bones and only cartilage for a skeleton.

A Lamprey's Lifecycle

Lamprey are found in the Icicle Creek Filter feeding in sand and silt. They migrate to the Pacific Ocean as they mature. Once in the ocean the lamprey becomes a parasite, sucking blood and juices from fish it attaches to.

As an adult, the lamprey returns to fresh water to spawn. This can be a long journey as it uses its mouth to move up and over obstacles to compensate for the inability to swim well.
